OUR NURSE

Hello!  My name is Maureen O'Keefe and I am the school nurse at St. John the Beloved.  I have been part of the SJB community since baptism as a parishioner, alumni, parent and employee.  It's a special place and I am so happy you're here.

I have a bachelor's degree in the science of nursing from the University of Delaware.  My professional experience includes working on surgical stepdown units at both Christiana Care and Mount Sinai hospitals, health coaching at corporate events and serving as the Nurse Manager of a home care company.  I have taken extra maternal/child classes in South Africa while working in clinics and an orphanage there and I am certified to teach birthing classes.  Lastly, my favorite caretaking roll and biggest honor is in being mom to my three children.

I'm looking forward to another great year serving as the school nurse.  Let me know how I can be of support.

HEALTH RECORDS

For each student, we need a copy of their most recent physical, a TB risk assessment, lead levels from 12 and 24 months and an updated immunization record.

Any student with asthma, food allergies, diabetes and/or epilepsy must have an action plan from their health care provider on file at school.  Please bring an updated action plan each school year.

MEDICATION

In order for me to administer medication to your student, a permission for medication/treatment form must be filled out (see link below under forms) and the medication must be brought in it's original packaging.

Permission for administration of non-prescription, over-the-counter medications can be found and updated on powerschool.

ILLNESS

  •  Please keep your child home if they are feeling sick.  This is crucial for keeping our students and staff healthy.
  • If your child has a fever of 100 degrees or higher, they need to stay home until they are fever-free for 24 hours without medication.
  • If your child has vomited, they need to stay home for 24 hours without another episode.
  • If your child has any symptoms that would inhibit them from learning, please keep them home until they are feeling well enough to participate in school.
  • We currently do not have a mandatory protocol or list of recommendations for students who test positive for covid.  We do not offer testing, specific periods of isolation or require masks.  Follow the above and, as with any virus, keep kids home when they are sick.
  • If you are asked to to pick your child up from school, please make arrangements to do so within an hour.
